The APL Ultrastable Oscillator offers several unique performance characteristics setting it apart from all other quartz crystal oscillator technologies.

Typical Performance Features

  • Allan Deviation - <2 x 10-13 for sampling periods from 10 to 100 seconds
  • Drift Rate - <10-11 per 24 hours after 30 days
  • Phase Noise - <-110 dBC at 1Hz offset from 10 MHz carrier
  • Radiation Sensitivity - < 1 x 10-10 per Rad(Si) proton radiation (with screening)
  • Radiation Total Dose - 100 Krad(Si)
  • Typical mass 0.6 to 2.0 kg (depending on design complexity)
  • Typical Power in vacuum 0.8 to 2.5 Watts after warm-up (depending on electrical requirements)

Our USO technology has been adapted into many superior frequency reference units (FRU’s) which have contributed significantly to the mission success of both military and civilian space programs. In the list below, we have made available the performance specifications for several of these FRU’s to illustrate the adaptability and engineering capability of our USO development process.
