My research focuses on impact cratering and the surface evolution of planets, satellites, and small bodies through the use of laboratory experiments, spacecraft data (multi-spectral imaging and laser altimetry), and numerical models. I have worked extensively designing and conducting laboratory impact experiments at the NASA Ames Vertical Gun Range (AVGR) and the APL Planetary Impact Laboratory (PIL). Many of my current projects involve the use of stereophotoclinometry techniques to construct shape models of various asteroids, comets, and satellites from high-resolution spacecraft images. I analyze these models and images with the help of APL’s Small Body Mapping Tool to examine and compare the geologies and evolutions of these bodies.

I am fortunate to have been involved in several spacecraft missions. Currently, I am the Instrument Scientist of the Europa Imaging System (EIS) on the NASA Europa Mission, a participating scientist on the JAXA Hayabusa2 mission to asteroid Ryugu, a participating scientist for the Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS) instrument on Cassini, and a member of the Long-Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI) instrument team on New Horizons. My previous mission experience includes MESSENGER (MLA deputy instrument scientist, MDIS instrument team associate, science team associate) and Deep Impact (science team associate).

We performed crater size-frequency measurement on Ryugu using high-resolution images obtained by Hayabusa2. Using Ryugu cratering chronology model, the surface age of Ryugu was estimated to be 0.1 to 1 billion years from the density of craters larger than 100 m in diameter.
