Kim's research involves the investigation of geologic relationships and mineralogy of solid surface planets using visible/near-infrared remote sensing data. Projects have focused on understanding the distribution and formation of alteration minerals on Mars that are indicative of past aqueous activity, like phyllosilicates, as well as primary mineralogy, like olivine and pyroxene, that inform crustal and climatic evolution, and ices, that relate to modern processes. She has studied such places as Gale crater, Margaritifer Terra, Huygens basin, Tyrrhena Terra, Olympus Mons, and the martian polar caps. She also enjoys mentoring students and helping others realize their research goals! Kim is also the Deputy Principal Investigator and Science Operations Lead for the Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars (CRISM) on board the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) and the Science Operations Lead for the Dragonfly mission to Saturn's moon, Titan.
